BASF recently awarded scholarships totaling $6,000 to nine local high school seniors through the company’s local and corporate scholarship programs.

“BASF’s scholarships reward students for outstanding academic performance and encourage them to consider careers in the chemical industry,” said Tom Yura, Senior Vice President and Manager of the BASF site in Geismar, Louisiana. “By investing in students who choose to major in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), we are helping to meet our future workforce needs.”

BASF selected eight scholarship recipients from high schools in Ascension Parish who plan to pursue STEM-related degrees. Each student received a $500 scholarship to apply toward college tuition. The scholarship winners in Ascension Parish include:

    Jennay Mitchell – Donaldsonville High School; Southern University
    Craig Ambeau – Donaldsonville High School; Southern University
    Emily Patterson –  Dutchtown High School; Louisiana State University
    Christian Logarbo – Dutchtown High School; Tulane
    Anastasia Britton –  East Ascension High School; Louisiana Tech University
    Hunter Ordeneaux –  East Ascension High School; University of Lafayette
    Maci McKey –  St. Amant High School; Louisiana State University
    Tyler Broussard –  St. Amant High School; Louisiana State University

In addition, a corporate scholarship program recognized academically talented children of BASF employees in the U.S. One of the 20 scholarships worth $2,000 was awarded to  the daughter of a BASF employee at the Geismar site, Ken Arceneaux:

    Therese Arceneaux –  St. Joseph’s Academy in Baton Rouge; Louisiana State University

BASF’s manufacturing presence in Louisiana includes operations in Geismar
(the corporation’s largest site in North America), Zachary and Vidalia. BASF
employs a workforce of around 2,000 people in Louisiana.
